Namaste!

The Twenty First Asian Real Estate Society Conference will be convened in Bengaluru, India, 13-15 July 2016. This Conference encourages a forward-orientation in empirical, theoretical, and normative research related to real estate to tackle the problems and opportunities that the world faces today.

This year, the University of Melbourne and the Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru will host the conference with support of the University of Queensland at the sprawling campus of Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru.

From a dusky town of seventies with mild weather and numerous lakes, Bengaluru, has emerged as a leading global city of the twenty first century boasting modernity amidst tradition. The city is a unique blend of modernity and heritage which is reflected in its architecture, cuisine and the way of life. Local attractions in Bengaluru include the Bengaluru Palace and the Fort of Tipu Sultan which tell the tales of changing thrones, deceit, wars, defeats and victories of the Deccan Plateau. Later additions to the city, which enrich the existing beauty, include the High Court, St. Mary's Basilica, Vidhana Soudha, and ISKCON Temple. Together with the neighbouring cities of Kolar (67 km), Mysore (143 km) and Hampi (which is UNESCO world heritage site, 343 km from Bangalore), Bangalore has retained the history and culture of  the Vijayanagara empire (1336-1565 AD) which excelled in Hindu temple architecture. Bangalore does not only satisfy the appetite for built environment lovers but is also the nest of nature housing Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary and Bannerghatta Biological Park. Driving little further away from the hustle bustle of the main city, one can escape into the dense vegetation of Bandipur and enjoy elephant rides into the forest in search of big cats in the reserves of Bandipur, Mudumalai and Masinagudi (approx. 235 km).

Like earlier AsRES conferences, this conference will provide a unique opportunity for real estate academics, practitioners, policy makers to share current research findings on topics related to real estate markets, property management, housing, urban economics, urban planning, real estate finance, property investment, property development, green buildings and regulation and government policies. Research on themes that are pertinent to emerging economies of Asia such as smart cities, affordable Housing, big data in real estate, PPP in infrastructure, land financing, technology, construction management and infrastructure finance, will also be discussed.

The conference will offer full peer review of papers across all interest areas.  This rigorous double blind peer review process will be of particular benefit to those academics that require faculty support for conference attendance.

In additional to several parallel paper sessions, the conference will offer a number of panel discussions on current issues that impact policy and practice around the world. Additionally, key Indian stakeholders – government, developers, property consultants, entrepreneurs and academics – will present a holistic view of the state of the Indian real estate sector.

We warmly welcome you to Bengaluru and hope you enjoy the conference!
